Sony Xperia miro & tipo announced with full details

Just a while ago, Sony has revealed its Xperia miro on Facebook with little info. Now they have officially announced the Xperia miro and tipo with more details on its hardware and dimensions.
For the Xperia miro, it runs on a modest 800MHz Qualcomm MSM72275A processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage (2.2GB user accessible). Fortunately the storage is expandable via microSD up to 32GB. Over at the front, it has a 3.5″ TFT display that pushes a rather low 480×320 resolution. It comes with a 5MP camera at the back (HD not mentioned) and a front facing VGA camera. It is 9.9mm thick and it weighs 110grams.
For an entry level device, the Xperia miro packs a rather huge 1500mAh capacity battery which is one of the biggest in its class. Sony claims a battery usage life of more than 24 hours for the miro. Considering the better spec dual-core 1GHz Xperia U is priced at RM899, we would expect the Xperia miro to be priced around RM700 range or less. Next is the new Xperia tipo which is formerly known as the Tapioca ST21i. Just like the Xperia miro, the Xperia tipo also runs on a 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7225A processor with 512MB RAM and 2.9GB of storage (2.5GB user accessible) that’s also expandable with microSD. The screen is smaller at 3.2″ TFT with 480×320 resolution and the glass is said to be scratch resistant. In terms of imaging, it comes with a 3.2MP camera that shoots VGA video. The Xperia tipo comes in 4 colours – Classic White, Classic Black, Deep Red & Navy Blue.
Despite its low specification hardware, it also runs on the current Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The Xperia tipo is juiced up with a 1,500mAh battery which claims to provide more than 24 hours of usage. For those that uses more than 1 SIM card, there’s also a dual SIM version called Xperia tipodual. No pricing details were given but both devices are said to be commercially available in Q3 2012.

LG Optimus L9 announced with 4.7-inch display

There will soon be a new Optimus L-Series smartphone on the prowl, as LG has just announced the Optimus L9 as a followup to its Optimus L3, L5 and L7 handsets. This series is viewed by LG as a budget lineup that places an emphasis on style, and the L9 will undoubtedly be the leader of the pack, as it boasts both a dual-core 1GHz CPU and a large, 4.7-inch IPS display. The phone will be outfitted with Android 4.0, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a beefy 2,150mAh battery.

New software is also set to ship with the Optimus L9, which includes both a redesigned keyboard and a language translation app. The new keyboard is dubbed the My Style Keypad, which allows users to adjust the key placement for easier one-handed typing -- like we've seen in Android 4.0 for the Galaxy Note -- along with a separated layout for landscape view (that you can peek in the gallery below). Meanwhile, the language translation service is dubbed QTranslator, which leverages OCR to translate sentences and phrases from 44 different languages into 64 native languages. There's no word yet on pricing or availability, though we'll be sure to let you know the moment those final tidbits become known.

We’ve got our hands on this device today and are finding its lovely 5-row keyboard to be just as nice as past DROID products we’ve seen from the manufacturer, brought on here with the speed of a dual-core processor and some nice rounded corners to keep you comfortable. The bright and sharp 4.3-inch 960 x 640 pixel resolution qHD display as well brings on a powerhouse for the manufacturer’s line of like-minded smartphones.





You’ll find that this device falls right in line with the whole Motorola family that’s been released over the past few weeks and months. This means that if you’ve got a XYBOARD or a RAZR in one hand and this in the other, you’ll know good and well that they’re part of the same Motorola design generation. The slider is strong, the keyboard is lit all around each of the keys, and the whole package brings on the best Motorola device in this form factor that the manufacturer has ever produced.


The dual-core processor inside comes from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon S4 – an impressive beast in and of itself. You’ve also got a large LED notification light above the speaker grill that lights up whenever you’ve got something new coming in via email, Twitter, or whatever else you’ve got popping in on the mobile web. The back of the device is curved so as to allow easier gripping – new and a bit unique for the OEM.





There’s 1GB of RAM here, 8GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot to expand your memory by 32GB. Sony Xperia Go, dust and water resistance

The Sony Xperia go is not your high-end handset. Take for example the 3.5 inch display offering resolution of 320 x 480 and a low pixel density of 165 ppi. Or even the dual-core 1GHz ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500 CPU with an ARM Mali-400 GPU and the 512MB of RAM on board. Even the pinstriped suits at the FCC could see that this was more of a low to mid-range model even with the water and dust resistant build and the scratch resistant screen. Instead, they probably noticed the 5MP camera that captures video in 720p, and the 4GB of native storage. Android 2.3 is installed out of the box.

While we have no idea when this phone is going to launch, it did visit the FCC, which is often the signal of an impending (although not imminent) release. While the model of the Sony Xperia go examined by the Feds is the international variant and can run on GSM and EDGE with U.S. carriers, the 900MHz and 2100MHz bands supported by the unit spell out overseas 3G connectivity.

Samsung reveals Galaxy Chat with full QWERTY and Android 4.0

A leak yesterday has forced Samsung into officially announcing the Galaxy Chat, a smartphone that combines a full QWERTY keyboard with Android 4.0. The device joins a select band of phones which provide the pairing, including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro and the upcoming LG LS860. It also resembles Palm's Pixi device, released back in 2009.
Samsung's announcement confirms specs shown on the Chinese government's certification site, including a disappointingly small 3-inch QVGA (320 x 240) touchscreen. The device offers 4GB of internal memory with a microSD slot for upgrades, along with a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1200 mAh battery. Clearly targeting the budget end of the Android market, the Galaxy Chat will make its debut in Spain later this month, before being rolled out more widely to "Europe, Latin America, Middle East, China, Southeast Asia, and Southwest Asia."

It's an odd design, but one which may strike a chord with some buyers, particularly BlackBerry fans looking to move away from RIM's ailing platform. Samsung is certainly pushing its proprietary BBM alternative ChatON, giving the app a dedicated launch button on the Galaxy Chat.

LG Prada 3.0 ICS update coming soon, hints tipster

Make of it what you will, but the image that you see here recently landed in our inbox. It appears to be a screenshot of an LG Prada 3.0, as indicated by the LG-P940 model name, updated to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. "Coming soon" is the comment that accompanied this tip, which lead us to believe that the ICS update for the LG Prada 3.0 might be nearing its release.

Could this be a fake? Certainly! However, we noted that the interface follows the same black and grey styling that is currently present on the device, so we might be looking at the real deal indeed. On the other hand, this could be nothing more but a screenshot from a custom ROM that a developer has crafted. Sadly, we don't have any further evidence to know for sure.
